Sky Tavern Junior Ski Race Team

Welcome to the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program Race Team! Our mission is to instill a lifelong love of skiing while mastering the essential skills needed for control and technique on the slopes. While our program emphasizes racing, our primary focus is teaching young skiers how to navigate any hill with confidence and control. Speed is exciting, but true racing is built on a foundation of skill and safety.

Why Join Our Race Team?

At Sky Tavern, we believe that every child deserves individual attention and support, recognizing that each skier progresses at their own pace. Our dedicated coaches foster an inclusive and encouraging environment, ensuring that all team members feel valued and motivated. You’ll often find kids eager to take one last run, even in challenging conditions, which speaks to the fun and excitement our program offers!

What You Can Expect

  • Skill Development: Our training prepares athletes for competitions in the Tahoe League, select Far West Division races, and high school events. We focus on developing foundational skiing skills that will serve skiers for a lifetime.

  • Dry Land Training: Starting in October, we conduct dry land training sessions on Saturdays. These sessions emphasize movement skills and preparation for on-snow training, ensuring skiers are physically ready for the season ahead.

·  Structured Training Sessions from first load to 11:00 AM, and again from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by free skiing opportunities.

Equipment Guidelines

To ensure your child’s success and safety, we recommend the following essential equipment:

  • Hard-shell Helmets: Mandatory for all skiers aged 10 and up.

  • Ski Boots: Properly fitted boots are crucial for performance. Look for boots with low flex rates appropriate for your child's weight.

  • Poles: Ensure that ski poles are the right length; the forearm should be level when standing on snow in ski boots.

While race-specific skis and speed suits are not necessary at the beginning, we do offer access to used equipment each season. Please note that rental options at Sky Tavern can be limited, so it’s best to secure gear early.

Don’t miss Bobo’s Racer Night on October 17 from 3 PM to 7 PM for more equipment options!

We work diligently to ensure that every participant in our program learns the art of skiing, fostering skills that last a lifetime. If you’re ready for your child to embark on an exciting skiing journey, we invite you to register for the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program Race Team!

FREESTYLE SKI & SNOWBOARD team

"Freestyle skiing is the ultimate expression of freedom and creativity on the slopes. It's about breaking free from convention, pushing boundaries, and blazing your own trail." - SkierBOB

Sky Tavern Freestyle invites beginner to intermediate ski and snowboard students to experience park features, big mountain terrain, and competitions in a supportive, fun environment.

Led by AASI/PSIA-certified freestyle coaches, the program combines structured lessons, one-on-one coaching, and guided discovery to help students develop their freestyle abilities. Strength training begins on snow and focuses on air and rotational awareness through a unique “outside-in” approach, building skills from the ground up. Students will start in the beginner freestyle park, progressing to our main park with boxes, rails, and jumps.

This program is offered to level 6 and higher for ski and snowboard athletes. Additionally, athletes must be able to consistently link turns without stopping on the 5 Hill, feel comfortable skiing/riding in trees, and can ski/ride switch (backward) down the 4 Bowl.

We ask parents to take an active role in the child's development by providing on-the-hill support with warm-up exercises, assisting with practice, and maintaining the park before, during, and after class. We strongly encourage athletes to attend both Saturday and Sunday instruction from 8:30 to 12:30.

Sky Tavern will host several competitions during the season. While we understand that parents and athletes may be unable to attend every event, remember: the more time and dedication you put in; the faster progress occurs.
