Adaptive Program
An unattended wheelchair parked adjacent to the slopes may come as a surprise at first glance. But look up on the mountain and you’ll likely find a young adaptive athlete enjoying a new opportunity at making turns — a common sight to behold at Sky Tavern.
Enabling all participants — regardless of disability— to get outside and enjoy the snow is our #1 goal. A safe environment empowers participants to gain confidence in outdoor recreation. Therefore, Sky Tavern’s adaptive department is specially trained to assist children of all physical and mental disabilities to safely experience the thrill of winter sports.
At one point or another in life, many children with disabilities struggle to imagine that participating in snow sports is a possibility. Our exceptionally trained and experienced adaptive staff aim to remove that barrier. Through personalized instruction and specialized gear, our adaptive staff can provide the crucial foundation for participants to build a love for the sport. Working together to make sure the young adaptive athletes have an extraordinary experience on the mountain is of the utmost importance to the adaptive staff.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, Sky Tavern is fortunate to have acquired an impressive stable of the specialized equipment necessary to enable adaptive athletes to enjoy the snow. In contributing to the purchase of costly bi-skis and other necessary and safe equipment, the community has ensured that lack of proper gear and a safe, supervised environment is no excuse for not learning to ski!
